Getting a kuwait driving license

Some residents, such as Westerners, may obtain a Kuwaiti driving license on the strength of their national driving license only. Other nationalities, even if they have a driving license from their home country, are obliged to apply for a learner's license and pass a driving test.

To obtain a driving license on the basis of a home-country license, an expatriate must present the following at the Traffic Department in the governorate in which he or she lives:

  • passport and photocopy of pages showing personal details and residence stamp,
  • letter from sponsor stating the applicant's position in the country (employee or dependent)and showing the applicant's full residential address,
  • proof of residential address, such as copy of tenancy agreement or electricity bill,
  • original driving licence from home country
  • photocopy of original driving licence certified by applicant's embassy in Kuwait,

Obtaining a Family Visa in Kuwait

Obtaining a Family Visa (Article 22) in Kuwait is a two phased activity. First phase in Kuwait and the second phase in India.

A minimum of KWD 250 is required as the salary. The visa can be applied for direct relatives such as parents, spouse, and children. The Visa is valid for 90 days before entry, otherwise automatically canceled.

Paper works In Kuwait

1. Prepare the Family Affidavit (not the relationship affidavit) and get it attested at the Indian Embassy. Ensure that you enter the Wife's name and the children's name in the affidavit. The cost of the affidavit is 6.600 KWD

2. The Visa application to be prepared and submitted to the VISA office(Application has to be submitted at your local immigration dept. 7 am – 12 pm) along with the following documents

New Labour Law

All though the new labour has NOT been approved and published, here is some of the new laws that has been considered. There are certain points that require clarifications, this is just an extract from Kuwait Times

CR = Current NW = New

CR:Annual Leave of 14 days for each of the first five years and 21 days thereafter.

NW: Annual Leave of 30 days excluding public holidays, weekends and sick leaves if any taken.

CR: Termination notice period is one month for monthly contract employees and 15 days for daily contract employees

NW: Termination notice period is increased to three months and one month respectively.

NW: Indemnity of upto 15 working days for each of the first five years. Indemnity of one month pay for each year after completion of five years provided their total salary does not exceed their salary for an 18 month period On termination from the employer, employees are entitled to full indemnity
