Emergency numbers in Kuwait are getting changed from 777 to 112 as per a recent announcement from the General Director of the Communications Department at the Ministry of Interior, Lieutenant Ali Zaid Al-Dahmali. The change is expected to happen on January 1, 2010. The previous number will be voided by the end of this year.
It was also announced during the meeting that an awareness campaign for the new emergency number will be conducted by the security's media department.
I think this is a positive move towards ensuring the international practice of using 112 as the emergency number.
Many mobile phones are configured to dial 112 even if the phone is on a keylock mode and just dialing 112 even without unlocking the key pad will take you to the emergency center.
But dialing the number 777 is not easy as you have to unlock the keypad first and then dial it, which could lead to delay.
