The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has taken the necessary measures to help expatriate workers, who are under the sponsorship of companies with files under codes 34, 73, 74 and others except 71, to transfer their residence permits as they should not be held responsible for the violations committed by their sponsors, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr Mohammad Al-Afasi. Al-Afasi revealed the Higher Joint Committee for the Organization of Labor in the Private Sector will meet Tuesday to discuss a number of labor related issues.
Affirming he will preside over the meeting, Al-Afasi said the panel’s agenda includes the recommendations of the Human Rights Committee in the Parliament, such as granting a three-month grace period for expatriate workers, who have been arrested and are facing deportation, to legalize their status. Al-Afasi added he has instructed the assistant undersecretary for labor affairs and other officials in his ministry to assist expatriates who have been duped by owners of illusory companies, including those under the sponsorship of companies whose files have been closed by the ministry under codes 34, 73, 74 and others except 71 for various violations. He emphasized the need to allow these expatriates to transfer their residence permits to another sponsor as they should not be blamed for the violations of their sponsors.
It is very good to see such humanitarian efforts from the government. This will definitly improve the Kuwait's image towards the human rights support
